Divorce Professionals

Let’s improve the divorce experience of domestic abuse survivors

Our Coalition is an action-oriented non-profit 501(c)3 organization, focused on reaching professionals in the divorce, abuse and other professional areas. By targeting areas like professional education and awareness, the impact of family and criminal courts and legislation, we aim to complement existing victim support organizations, not to compete with them. Our goal is to eliminate the retraumatization of domestic abuse victims going through the divorce process.

Please note: we do not serve victims and survivors directly, but we work with divorce professionals through education, awareness and process change.

"We strive to disrupt the conventions that allow direct physical, emotional, financial and all forms of abuse. This include the abuse of false allegations and manipulations of all kinds."

Re-Traumatization of Divorce

In a Taylor and Francis survey, domestic violence survivors indicated a lack of trust in the divorce and legal systems in place to protect them. It concluded that systems-level changes to legal proceedings and expanded training for legal professionals is needed. Many survivors/survivors also reported re-traumatization in court and reported that legal professionals verbally threatened them, mocked them, did not give them a chance to speak in court, exaggerated the survivor’s faults in court, and provoked them to elicit emotional reactions.

Eliminate Divorce Trauma for Abuse Survivers

Our mission is to to enhance the divorce process for domestic abuse survivors through the education and awareness of divorce, court and legislative professionals resulting in a more supportive and less traumatic divorce experience.

This is just the beginning of our journey. Together, we are committed to breaking the silence, challenging stigma, and driving meaningful change. We believe in a future where the process supports, not ignores, the victim. Join us in this crucial fight.

Our Efforts Will Change the Face of Divorce for Abuse Survivors

The time is now. Add your support to a cause greater than any statistic. Here’s how:

Survivor Survey

This project will give survivors a voice by capturing their experiences and perceptions of the divorce process. Through professional, anonymous surveys conducted at the beginning and end of their journey, we aim to measure how well divorce processes, legal interactions, and court personnel have improved from a survivor's perspective.

Why It Matters: Survivors' voices often go unheard. By quantifying their experience, this project will allow us to highlight specific areas needing change and show measurable progress in making the process safer and more empowering for survivors.

Divorce Professionals Survey

To create a safer environment for survivors, divorce professionals need the right education and awareness. This project involves administering surveys to measure professionals' understanding of domestic abuse and how it impacts the divorce process. We'll assess changes in their perspectives before and after training interventions.

Why It Matters: Legal professionals play a critical role in how survivors navigate the court system. Improving their understanding of domestic abuse can lead to more empathetic and fair outcomes for victims.

Certification of Divorce Professionals

We are developing a specialized Domestic Violence Certification Program for divorce professionals, ensuring they have the training needed to handle abuse-related cases, and can truly understand the victim experience. This program will offer CLE (Continuing Legal Education) credits, creating a pathway for legal, court and other divorce professionals to become certified experts in domestic violence and divorce. impact.

Why It Matters: Certified professionals will better serve survivors, ensuring that cases involving abuse are handled with the care and understanding they require. This program will raise the standard for how the legal system interacts with abuse survivors.

Divorce coalition

From the Founder, Beverly Price

I founded the Divorce Coalition with a passion - I believe the divorce process can be difficult for anyone. But for victims of domestic abuse and violence, it can be a traumatic experience that compounds their abuse trauma. As a divorce professional and abuse survivor myself, I know first hand that the trauma experienced in a relationship can be exponentially increased by divorce. Much of this re-traumatization can come from the process, the system and the professionals involved, even with the best of intentions.

I believe that education, awareness and process change are the answers.

I have assembled an incredible team of divorce and domestic abuse professionals to do just that. They are volunteering their time and effort to help foster this change.

I hope you join us in creating this important change!
